This is a beautiful historic cavalry Remount fort that caters to horses. There are nice stalls, overnight hookups for trailers, and the riding here is unsurpassed by anywhere else I have ever ridden. When the Fort is open, they have an excellent restaurant located on site, as well as other activities like a Playhouse and chuckwagon ride. It is peaceful, quiet, and away from the hustle and bustle.
We managed to secure tickets to the highly sought-after historical dinner we had heard about. Acquiring them proved to be quite a challenge, as this event sells out within the blink of an eye. As newcomers, we were truly astounded by our experience. The cuisine was absolutely exquisite, surpassing all expectations. The chosen theme for the year was nothing short of spectacular. It baffles me how the service remained impeccable despite the overwhelming presence of over 200 guests. And let's not even begin to discuss the entertainment, which left us utterly speechless. If you ever have the opportunity to obtain a ticket, I implore you to seize it without hesitation!
Lots of history in this area. Old army fort where many of the original buildings are still there. You can rent a place to stay in one of the old buildings, or stay at the campground. There is a marker on the old parade grounds where Crazy Horse was killed trying to escape. There was also a World War II German Prisoner of War camp nearby. The area is just beautiful.
There's many camping spots for campers & tents. There's so much to do. I went on a jeep ride to the top of the bluffs & a horse drawn wagon tour of the fort. There are cabins to stay in. There's large facilities to rent for large groups. You can go on a trail ride or ride in a stagecoach. Bikes are for rent. There's a restaurant there with very reasonable prices. There are 2 museums on the property and a swimming pool.
Beautiful hike. What else can you say. Oh, wait... ticks. Watch out for ticks, and did I mention the grass seeds that cling mercilessly to your dogs hair, your clothes and anything that touches them. Is it Worth it?? For me?? I've already planned the hike again this week. Check it out
On the west side of the state park on the main highway is a marker honoring the "Outbreak". Several hundred yards to the west of that placard is the memorial shown here. It is about 100 yards north of the highway. It is well worth the visit.
We had a great time at Fort Rob. There is a nice swimming pool, bathrooms were kept clean Bring quarters to pay for the campground showers (about $4.50 for a decent length). There are many things to see and do: museums, historical markers, cows, amazing sunsets, stars at night, buffalo, stage coach rides, bicycle rentals, rodeo... Though small, the Thursday night rodeo is highly recommended. They put on an entertaining show and offer pull-behind hide rides for littles after the show!
We camped, fished, went to the great museums, attended a play. It was awesome. We will come back soon 😀 …
